Information Commissioner To Speak At Society Of Editors Anniversary Conference

Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham is the latest speaker to be confirmed for this year’s Society of Editors Conference in London in November.

The 20th anniversary event at Stationers’ Hall will mark two decades of the Society’s campaigning work on behalf of media freedom as well as looking at present day challenges and the future for the industry.

The Information Commissioner joins a strong list of speakers supporting the conference, including the editors of The Mail on Sunday, Ted Verity, The Daily Mirror, Alison Phillips, and The Daily Telegraph, Chris Evans.

The NMA has been engaging with the Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham and ICO officials on a variety of issues affecting news media including ad tech.

The NMA strongly objected to the Information Commissioners Office Age Appropriate Design draft code and has called for news media publishers to be excluded from the scope of the code.

Elizabeth Denham moved to reassure publishers that they will not be affected by plans to introduce an age appropriate design code and standards for websites which the NMA fears would “wreak havoc” upon news media

Society of Editors’ executive director Ian Murray said: “Over the past two decades the Society of Editors’ annual conference has proved itself to be the litmus test of the state of the industry.

“I’m delighted that once again we have assembled a tremendous line-up of speakers who will provide invaluable insights into what the future holds for the media here in the UK.”

The conference takes place on 12 November. The day’s conference will be followed by a gala dinner to celebrate the Society’s 20th anniversary.
