Nadine Dorries Appointed Culture Secretary

Nadine Dorries, MP for Mid Bedfordshire since 2005, has been appointed as the new Culture Secretary in a reshuffle which kicked off yesterday.

She replaces Oliver Dowden who moves to the Cabinet Office and the post of Minister without Portfolio.

As the reshuffle continues today, John Whittingdale has said that he is stepping down as Minister for Media and Data.

Ms Dorries’ previous role since May 2020 was Minister at the Department of Health and Social Care.

Ms Dorries trained as a nurse at Warrington General Hospital and then went on to set up her own business and later became a director at BUPA.

She has also published a number of books and appeared as a contestant on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!

She was previously an adviser to the former Shadow Home Secretary and Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer Oliver Letwin MP.

In further DCMS moves, Julia Lopez becomes Minister of State, moving from Cabinet Office, and Caroline Dinenage, previously Minister for Digital and Culture, has left Government.
