Truss Matches Sunak Commitments on DMU And Section 40

Liz Truss has matched Rishi Sunak’s commitments to promote the sustainability of journalism by taking forward in the autumn the legislation underpinning the Digital Markets Unit and repealing Section 40 of the Crime and Courts Act 2013.

Asked in an interview with the Eastern Daily Press whether she would match Mr Sunak’s commitments, given in response to a letter from News Media Association chief executive Owen Meredith, Ms Truss said: "I absolutely have already said that I will keep those commitments."

Early in the Conservative leadership campaign, the NMA approached all candidates to seek their views on key media industry issues.

In a letter to the NMA, Mr Sunak said the long term sustainability of the vital news media industry could not be taken for granted and pledged to take forward the DMU legislation in the autumn and repeal Section 40 before the next general election.
